Bjorn's eBOOK-maker

Author, publish and manage ebooks

- a Google Docs extension -

Gbook - a new kind of online eBOOK.

Bjorn's eBOOK-maker enables you to quickly generate a new kind of online ebook based on a simple web-based format (Gbook) and viewer/reader (Bjorn's eBOOK-reader).

Use Google Docs to author your ebooks, then publish to your own Google Drive as public HTML files.

The Gbook format is purely based on web standards such as JSON, CSS and HTML. The reader itself is a Single Application Page (SAP).

Gbooks are hosted on your Google Drive as a public folder.

Readers of your Gbooks can add public comments as well as rate each page. As an author, you can reject or approve each comment. The reader insight dashboard provides you with all sorts of analysis, for example, most viewed page, search phrases not found etc.

If you sign-in with your Google credentials, the reader allows you to quickly open the source documents behind the ebook pages as well as approve or reject new comments.

LEXEND for maximized readability

The reader is by default using the easy-to-read LEXEND font..

Highlights

Converts Google Docs to nice and clean HTML that easily can be reformatted using CSS.

Apply stylesheets to all pages, making sure that for example all headings look the same.

Convert footnotes in each document to sidenotes.

Generate different versions of an ebook using conditional text and variables.

Break larger documents into smaller pages (each Title paragraph can be made to start a new ebook page).

Quickly reuse content by using and managing your library of small snippet documents.

Reader comments and reader ratings

Your end users can both comment on and rate your pages (you can of course turn off this feature).

You will receive an email as soon as a new rating or comment is submitted.

You can choose having comments live automatically or you can decide to manually accept or reject each incoming comment.

Accepting or rejecting comments are easy, either use the Bjorn's EBOOK-reader app or accept or reject the comment directly using the email you receive.

Reader analytics and insights

The reader app gives you access to basic insight into how readers are accessing your help:

  • Search phrases NOT finding any pages
  • Recently used search phrases
  • Popular pages
  • Popular search phrases

Variables

Include text that frequently changes and appears often in your documents as variables.

Variables are also useful for providing information that is updated automatically, such as the current date or time.

They furthermore enable "single sourcing" - using the same set of source documents to generate different versions of a help system.

System variables

Embedded mini-quizzes

You can embed simple drag'n'drop quizzes by using simple markup. (short demo video)

The markup is plain text (and not HTML) to support regular text editors such as Google Docs and MSWord.

Here is markup for a three item drag and drop quiz. The task is to drag Item1, Item2, Item3 to the correct target box.

[Drag] Item1=Target1

[Drag] Item2=Target2

[Drag] Item3=Target3

The embedded quiz will look like this when injected into the topic.

[Drag] Item1=Target1

[Drag] Item2=Target2

[Drag] Item3=Target3

Here is another example with a simple Harry Potter quiz:

[Instruction] Match first names with surnames:

[Drag] Barty=Crouch

[Drag] Fleur=Delacour

[Drag] Albus=Dumbledore

[Drag] Seamus=Finnigan

[Drag] Bellatrix=Lestrange

[Drag] Minerva=McGonagall
